Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our FAQ section where we answer the most common questions about our GPA Calculator and academic grading systems. If you can't find the answer to your question here, please feel free to contact us directly.

How do I add courses to the calculator?

To add courses to the calculator, simply click on the "Add Course" button within a semester section. This will create a new course entry where you can input the course name, credit hours, and grade received. You can add as many courses as needed for each semester.

If you need to add multiple courses quickly, you can continue clicking the "Add Course" button for each new course you want to add. The calculator will automatically update your GPA as you add and modify courses.

How do I add or remove semesters?

To add a new semester, click on the "Add Semester" button located below the existing semesters. This will create a new semester section with an initial empty course.

To remove a semester, click on the trash icon in the top-right corner of the semester header. Note that you cannot remove the last remaining semester. If you accidentally remove a semester, you'll need to add it back and re-enter your course information.

How is my GPA calculated?

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated by dividing the total grade points earned by the total credit hours attempted. For each course, the grade points are calculated by multiplying the credit hours by the grade point value assigned to the letter grade (based on the selected grading system).

For example, in a 4.0 scale system, if you earned an A (4.0 points) in a 3-credit course, you would earn 12 grade points for that course. The calculator sums up all grade points and divides by the total credits to determine your GPA.

Your CGPA (Cumulative GPA) is calculated by considering all courses across all semesters, using the same method of total grade points divided by total credit hours.

Can I save my calculations for future reference?

Yes, you can save your calculations by using the export options provided. We offer three export formats: PDF, Image, and CSV. These exports include all your course information, grades, and calculated GPAs.

Currently, we do not offer account-based saving of calculations directly on our website. However, we recommend exporting your results and saving them to your device for future reference.

What grading systems does the calculator support?

Our calculator supports multiple grading systems to accommodate different educational institutions worldwide. The supported grading scales include:

  • 4.0 Scale (standard US system where A = 4.0)
  • 4.3 Scale (where A+ = 4.3)
  • 5.0 Scale
  • 10.0 Scale
  • Custom Scale (where you can define your own grade point values)

You can select your preferred grading system from the dropdown menu at the top of the calculator. If your institution uses a different scale, you can use the custom option to define your specific grade point values.

How do I set up a custom grading scale?

To set up a custom grading scale, select "Custom Scale" from the grading system dropdown menu. This will display a form where you can enter the point value for each letter grade (A+, A, A-, B+, etc.).

Enter the appropriate point value for each grade according to your institution's grading policy. Once you've entered all values, click the "Save Custom Grading" button to apply your custom scale to the calculator. The calculator will then use these values for all GPA calculations.

My university uses percentage grades. How can I calculate my GPA?

If your university uses percentage grades, you'll need to convert these percentages to letter grades based on your institution's conversion chart, and then use our calculator with the appropriate grading scale.

Most institutions provide a conversion chart that maps percentage ranges to letter grades (e.g., 90-100% = A, 80-89% = B, etc.). Once you've converted your percentages to letter grades, you can enter these into our calculator.

Alternatively, you can use the custom grading scale option to create a more direct mapping from your percentage system to grade points, if your institution provides such a conversion.

Do I need to create an account to use the calculator?

No, you do not need to create an account to use our GPA calculator. The calculator is completely free to use and accessible to anyone who visits our website. You can start calculating your GPA immediately without any registration or login requirements.

However, please note that without an account, your calculations will not be automatically saved. We recommend using the export features to save your results to your device for future reference.
